Girls in ICT Day 2017

On Thursday the 27th on April 2017, The Girls in ICT day took place at the Telefonica space in Wayra located in Piccadilly Circus. Hosted by the Global Speciale Moblie Association (GSMA) it was a pleasant day filled with lots of guest appearances, fun and of course an abundance of learning.

This event was a unique showcase for the teenage girls of the Bridge Academy school in Hackney to learn about careers in ICT. Award winning Teenage Technology association The Acorn aspirations were also in attendance.

Before the day go into full swing Ramat Tejani of the GSMA gave a warm welcome and informative insight to all about what was to be expected of the day.

The main aim of the day was to showcase all the exciting career prospect that are available to teens in the career of Technology and ICT.

Ada of the tech division of Samsung was the first guest speaker of the day. She also engaged the girls of Bridge Academy in a two-hour activity which consisted of programming and editing a virtual reality environment.

Georgie Barrett co-host of the gadget show and Natasha Rooney Internet Engineering Director at GSMA, both gave inspiring talks about their careers in technology.

Google Expeditions also took over a portion of the day allowing the teens to use their innovative virtual reality Google’s amazing designed in cardboard.

To put an end to a fantastic day a few speakers of acorn aspirations teams showcase their projects in technology.

All in all, it was a fantastic day uniting women in technology.


The Acorn Aspirations will be hosting a Hackathon taking place at The Walbrook Building in London on the weekend of Saturday the 17th to Sunday the 18th of June. This is a great opportunity for students to get excited and learn more about Tech, while creating something unique as a result.
